Band(s): Panic at the Disco [with a brief guest appearance by members of Empires]
Pairing(s): Jon/Spencer, with a few background pairings, including Tom/Sean, Brendon/Shane, and Ryan/Keltie
Word Count: 28,700
Rating/Warnings: NC-17
Author Notes: I took a lot of inspiration for the recording sessions from a documentary about Wilco called I Am Trying to Break Your Heart. (To conserve space, some extended notes on this are at the actual fic post on my writing journal.) The title comes from "Something to Do with My Hands" by Her Space Holiday. Thanks to
belle_bing for the beta. I worked on this story for four months and really would not have made it through without her. Many others read drafts and gave me feedback; they're too numerous to name, but they know who they are and how grateful I am.
Summary: Futurefic, post break-up. Panic goes on hiatus, and Jon begins to withdraw from his bandmates. He barely speaks to any of them anymore, least of all Spencer, leaving their relationship to crumble, unresolved. When the band decides to reunite almost three years later to try writing and recording a new album in a loft in Chicago, Jon needs to figure out his own place in the band and sort out the thing he has with Spencer if they want to be able to make this record and put the band back together again.
